This article highlights what, I believe, will be a growing problem for China as they look to expand their presence globally. The "Beijing Consensus" of growth without freedom, of the acquisition of material goods without purpose, is bankrupt, and will not fulfill mankind's yearning for freedom and self determination. While the "Beijing Consensus" is an excellent intellectual shield, for dictators and despots to hide behind, it will not stand the test of time. This article, in my opinion, is another example of human kinds unfortunate trait of wanting something for nothing. The Chinese have not found a shortcut to riches. There is but one path to prosperity, hard work, hard work and more hard work.
Unfortunately, it seems to me, that a large portion of the U.S. population has forgotten this. We are still a nation of hard workers but we are no longer a nation that is prepared to do the hard work of generations necessary to continue to advance our society. Here in the bay area, we are rebuilding a bridge across our magnificent bay, that is completely prefabbed in China and only assembled here. It is assembled by U.S. nationals but how long will it be before we need to import that the labor as well. Angola with bounty of natural resources it possesses should be a middle income country. China is not the answer, Democracy is!
